Clement Attlee, the British Prime Minister, announced on February 20, 1947, the British intention to leave the Indian subcontinent. The deadline of June 30, 1947 was fixed to shift the power to the hands of Indian politicians. But the people of India, especially the Congress and the Muslim League disagreed on the transfer of power.
The communal riots are out of control by the major political parties such as Muslim League and the Congress. Britishers knew there was trouble worldwide because they also faced the consequences of the Second World War. When the Congress and Muslim League could not compromise, the Britishers introduced the Mountbatten plan on June 3, 1947.

In the case of partition into a Dominion, two newly-independent dominions of India and Pakistan constitutional assemblies were created, and many more.
On the day August 15, 1947 Britain wanted to escape from the responsibility of the communal situation. The plan Bengal and Punjab that divided and formed West Bengal and East Punjab remained with the Indian Union. At the same time, Sylhet and east Bengal joined Pakistan.
